The Faithfull: A Tribute to Marianne Faithfull sees an array of artists coming together to honour the English songstress’ ongoing legacy, with proceeds going toward Faithfull’s long-term recovery from Covid. The first single, a rendition of ‘This Little Bird’ by Tanya Donelly & The Parkington Sisters, is shared today.
Admirers of the glamorous English rock icon Marianne Faithfull united to create a covers album of the legendary singer’s best-loved songs, featuring Iggy Pop, Shirley Manson, Cat Power, Peaches, Lydia Lunch and more.
The Faithfull: A Tribute to Marianne Faithfull is due December 8, with proceeds going toward helping Faithfull recover from a long-haul bout of Covid. The first single from the project is shared today, which sees Tanya Donelly (Belly, The Breeders) link up with Massachusetts band The Parkington Sisters for the second time on their version of Faithfull’s ‘This Little Bird.’
Layered vocal harmonies and heavenly strings pay a tender homage to the 74-year-old singer-songwriter. Of the release, Donelly shares in a press statement, “Marianne’s voice has always been one of my favourite instruments, from childhood through today, and her music and spirit have been life-long inspirations. I wanted to cover ‘This Little Bird’ for its fragile and beautiful musical arrangement and melody, and the bittersweet story the lyrics tell.”
‘This Little Bird’ was the single that opened the American version of Faithfull’s self-titled 1965 debut album, recorded when she was just 18. The track went on to become a Top 10 hit in the UK Charts.

Faithfull shared news of her hospitalisation due to Covid in 2021, shortly before releasing her spoken word album She Walks in Beauty, featuring Nick Cave and Brian Eno and created with Cave’s long-time collaborator Warren Ellis.
The singer has since been recovering from long-haul Covid illness symptoms, including fatigue, memory loss and lung problems, which caused her to lose her singing voice.
As Faithfull continues on her journey to recovery, long-time admirers of her legendary work are helping in her battle with the release of The Faithfull. The album will feature Iggy Pop and Cat Power teaming up for a version of ‘Working Class Hero,’ as well as Garbage’s Shirley Manson and Peaches' take on ‘Why D’Ya Do It.’ Elsewhere on the album are renditions of Faithfull’s hits from Tracy Bonhan, Joan As Policewoman, L7’s Donita Sparks and more.
Pre-orders for The Faithfull: A Tribute to Marianne Faithfull, out December 8, are available now. Listen to the first single from the project below and check out the full track listing.
