'Dirty Little Virus' begins, “COVID-19 is on the scene", later belting out the lines “Grandfather’s dead/Got Trump instead,” and “She’s only 19, but she can kill ya.”
Rock icon Iggy Pop has shared a new track on Bandcamp called 'Dirty Little Virus,' which marks his first new song on the platform since his cover of Sly Stone's 'Family Affair' back in April of this year.
“I was moved to write a direct lyric, not something too emotional or deep,” Pop says in a video explaining the song, “more like journalism: ‘who, what, when, where?’ I left out the ‘why’ because that gets too complex, but I put in how I feel about it.”
“It’s been the big thing happening in my life – and everybody else’s, I reckon – for almost a year now," he added. "If there was still a man of the year, it’d be the virus.”
The new rock tune resembles a similar aesthetic and sound to Pop’s 2016 record Post Pop Depression.
Iggy Pop co-wrote 'Dirty Little Virus' with Leron Thomas, who also edited, arranged, and played trumpet on the track.
