Following news of his headline slot at All Together Now 2020, the Godfather of Punk has shared the "officially unofficial" new music video.
Iggy Pop has shared a brand new music video for 'Sonali', from his latest album Free. Directed by Mac DeMarco, the suitably surreal visuals see the return of the lizard protagonist – a theme that memorably featured in the video for DeMarco's 'Nobody'.
The so-called "officially unofficial" video sees the reptilian character driving through the streets in a furry pink, Mercedes before getting stuck in traffic and breaking into a saxophone solo. His lizard girlfriend is played by DeMarco's real-life partner, Kiera McNally.
Free, released back in September, marked Iggy's first album since 2016's Post Pop Depression.
"This is an album in which other artists speak for me, but I lend my voice," he revealed in a statement about the release. "By the end of the tours following Post Pop Depression, I felt sure that I had rid myself of the problem of chronic insecurity that had dogged my life and career for too long.
"But I also felt drained," he continued. "And I felt like I wanted to put on shades, turn my back, and walk away. I wanted to be free. I know that’s an illusion, and that freedom is only something you feel, but I have lived my life thus far in the belief that that feeling is all that is worth pursuing; all that you need - not happiness or love necessarily, but the feeling of being free. So this album just kind of happened to me, and I let it happen."
