Is it sexual liberation in handy CD form? Well, we can’t know for sure, but listening to Peaches, one can momentarily forget that we live on the same planet as the faux girl power of the Pussycat Dolls.
“I’d rather fuck who I want/Than kill who I’m told,” shouts Merill ‘Peaches’ Nisker on the 45 second overture for Impeach My Bush. Fear not. The Toronto born omnisexual hasn’t come over all political for her third outing. There’s only one territory that the Fatherfucker cares about, and it’s located down between her legs. “Feed the clam,” she commands, Grandmistress Flash style, on ‘Slippery Dick’, before launching into a characteristically filthy tirade - ‘Fist Fuck, Cock Suck/ What’s the diff?’ She revels in her delightful gift for obscenity on ‘Stick It To The Pimp’ - “You thought I was going to say Stick It In," she says, playfully. “I’ll slink in when you boys are in a French knot,” she suggests on ‘Two Guys For Every Girl’. Like, where do we sign up? It is indeed remarkable that since The Teaches Of Peaches, Peaches has demonstrated enough invention and novelty with her potty-mouth to put most teenage boys to shame. But if the language is dog rough, the production values have moved on from DIY garage electronica. Make no mistake, Impeach My Bush rocks. With cameos from Joan Jett, Josh Homme and Hole drummer Samantha Maloney, the sound is bigger, brasher and more dominant than ever. ‘You Love It’ is a stadium anthem. ‘Boys Wanna Be Her’ is post-punk garage-glam. Is it sexual liberation in handy CD form? Well, we can’t know for sure, but listening to Peaches, one can momentarily forget that we live on the same planet as the faux girl power of the Pussycat Dolls. “You love it when I’m bad,” Peaches grinds. Yep. That’s about the size of it.
