Irish talent Trophy Wife shares a taste of her upcoming sophomore EP Showpony, the exciting, X-files-inspired single 'Scully'
Ruby Smyth, the Irish indie artist Trophy Wife, returns to the music scene with her new single 'Scully.' The first of her released singles from her upcoming unreleased EP Showpony, its a new
A rising figure in the Irish rock and indie music scenes, she broke out into the spotlight with her 2020 debut EP Art, solidifying her position as a gloriously vibrant act straight from Dublin's prolific musical indie landscape.
Since, as Trophy Wife she's played at the Grand Social, Workman's, Whelan's, and the Sound House. She's been a part of festivals like We've Only Just Begun, Singular Artists, and One's to Watch at Whelan's.
Her first single since the 2021 track 'Good Love,' Ruby found inspiration for 'Scully' from the Gillian Anderson X-files character of the same name. Putting a new spin on her previously established iconic sound, Ruby fills 'Scully' with a reverberating, sonic harmony, jangly guitars, and a dynamic chorus.

Ultimately, the complex, intimate, and queer single brings the accuracy of our deeper instincts under investigation. Trophy Wife even calls said instincts into question during the mundane and domestic moments of our lives as she explores the pitfalls of anxiety, paranoia, and despair that can cloud a person's judgement.
"Scully is a song for people like me who are painfully self aware and hold emotions very close to their chest," Ruby reveals.
"It came to me one day while watching TV and contemplating the difference between the inner and outer world. Sonically, I wanted it to be exciting and layered - focussing on conversational guitar lines, big rich harmonies and a driving beat throughout. It slaps - and Gillian Anderson is really hot so, there's that too."
Following 'Scully,' fans of Trophy Wife can expect three planned single releases before Showpony drops in October.
The tracks will delve further into the rock and grunge scene than Ruby has dared venture before, all the while retaining Trophy Wife's curated sophisticated sound. An exploration of the wild vs. the domesticated, the public vs. the private, and queer love vs. loss, Showpony is set to be a gripping collection of music from one of Ireland's most promising rising artists.
