Indigo Fury prove their mettle with a seemingly inexhaustible supply of three-minute power pop-rock gems
There’s a fairly old saying in music journalism. If a gig commences with the word “motherfucker” belted into the mic, you’re in for one of two things: either a horrendously loose I Hate My Parents/Slipknot covers band, or a very good rock ‘n’ roll gig. Luckily for me, tonight we got the latter.
Taking over from the promising support act The Flaws, Indigo Fury prove their mettle with a seemingly inexhaustible supply of three-minute power pop-rock gems. They blast through the no-holds-barred rawk of ‘Inebriation’ (my personal fave) and the excellent ‘At That’ with surging guitar distortions, vocals reminiscent of Eddie Vedder, Brett Anderson and Olly Knights from Turin Brakes and a rhythm section that’d flatten a sumo wrestler.

However, despite the gleam of such a superbly tight and professional outfit, the boys do shoot themselves in the foot on more than one occasion with a selection of over zealous ba-ba-ba/do-do-do backing-vocals. Still, with the core of good songs and a tight sound so firmly in place, it’s hard to deny Indigo Fury’s appeal. With a few tweaks here and there, they might just be great.
