"Music is the second language of my family."
Aislinn Logan’s latest track, ‘Spree’, has been causing a stir across the country, and was even named Track Of The Week on 2FM. The Belfast singer describes music as “the second language of my family”, with her foray into songwriting being almost kismet.
“My dad was an all Ireland accordion champion more than once,” she notes, “and my mum played the piano and cello. I was always in choirs and doing classical singing lessons. When I became a teenager, music finally went from homework from my parents, to something I really enjoyed.”
Aislinn left her hometown to study in Dundee, where her love of music only deepened. “I got my first guitar on my first day of uni,” she reflects. “I’m completely self-taught, so I’m pretty sure I drove my flatmates absolutely insane.”
Logan is notably reluctant to pigeonhole her work. “I think musicians are a product of their environment,” she muses. “My music moves between genres because I listen to everything – from Stormzy to Paul Simon. I think it’s boring to stick to one genre. I love fusion in music, particularly bands like The Gloaming; their fusion of Irish trad and jazz is brilliant.”
Currently, Aislinn has a hectic schedule and she has now plans to slow down.

“We shot a video for ‘Spree’ on film recently,” explains the singer, “so hopefully that will turn out really cool. That’s going to be out shortly. After that, I’m doing another single which is definitely angrier. I’m figuring out the order of what comes next, but I’ll have an EP out soon. I want to get out into the live circuit – there’s nothing better than that."
