The Hot Sprockets have had a busy year so far, releasing excellent track ‘Soul Brother’ on Record Store Day and keeping their gig schedule jammed as always. Fellow Dubliners Sounds Of System Breakdown throw a hometown lauch party on May 24 for their Nomad album in the Grand Social. The three-piece’s debut was favourably compared to LCD Soundsystem, Talking Heads, Soulwax and Depeche Mode and the new departure ploughs similar indie dance furrows. The combo, which comprises Rob Costello, Richy Kelly and Ed Costello, recently impressed with the well-received Colour EP. The new album was co-produced with the legendary Rob Kirwan, who’s produced, mixed or engineered albums for U2, PJ Harvey, Soulwax, The Horrors and Editors. Work was completed in Grouse Lodge, Co. Westmeath and Rob’s Exchequer Studio in Dublin…

It’s been produced by Dave ‘Skippy’ Christophers, who they worked with on their first long-player, Abandoned Road. Skip is also currently putting the finishing touches to the new Fox Jaw Bounty Hunters and In Their Thousands records. We’ve had a sneak preview of both, and they’re erpic!
The Tarantella boys’ live standout, ‘Dirt’, was picked by artist Barry Jazz Finnegan to accompany his drawing of Liam Neeson from Taken 2 and another song, ‘Junk’, soundtracked ESPN’s ‘Supercross’ preview video…
Cork sextet John Blek and The Rats are basking in the fantastic response to their recent appearance on Brendan O’Connor’s Saturday Night Show. The folk/Americana six-piece performed ‘Hand On My Heart’ from their new Leave Love At The Door album, which exclusively previewed on hotpress.com. Having gigged extensively in the UK and on the continent over the last two years the troupe bring their Willy Nelson/Woody Guthrie-influenced fare to DeBarra’s, Clonakilty (May 25); McCarthy’s, Dingle (26); Greyhound, Kilkee (July 7) and Townhouse, Galway (8)...
