Plenty of summer loving as the gigs, festivals and launches keep on coming...
Between festivals, gigs and outdoor megashows, the summer brings a veritable plethora of options for lovers of live music. But don’t forget the new releases that will provide a soundtrack to your lazy sunny evenings (more of them please!!) and weekend excursions.
The next month sees collections from Kodakid, Crow Black Chicken, Sleep Thieves and many more. And how great is the new Hot Sprockets long-player?! We are truly spoiled….
Waterford’s Kodakid unleash their self-titled debut on June 30 and celebrate with an official launch in Whelan’s, Dublin on June 28. To ensure the home-crowd are catered for the band are running a bus, which will leave from Murphy’s on the Quay in Waterford at 6.30 that evening. How considerate!
Since forming in 2011 the band have shared the stage with Bastille, The Noisettes, The Riptide Movement and many more.
Admission is € 10, which includes a copy of the album. Support on the night comes from Paul Hennessy and on DJ duties are Kantor Tzar Collectif...
If you like your sounds with more of a blues-rock hue, you’ll be chomping at the bit to hear the new studio outing from southern troupe Crow Black Chicken. Rumble Shake follows on from 2012’s Electric Soup, which garnered rave reviews.
The trio recorded in Dublin's Westland Studios and whilst there drew inspiration from the legends who've graced the building, including Dylan, Horslips and Thin Lizzy. They (Crow Black Chicken, that is) are currently on the road in support of the record. Check hotpress.com for dates…..
Dublin’s Sleep Thieves make their You Want The Night available for your listening pleasure on June 17 via Minty Fresh Records. The album follows on from flagship singles ‘City Of Hearts’ and ‘You Want The Night’, which have created quite the buzz on the interweb.
Vinyl copies can be pre-ordered from sleepthieves.net with beautiful artwork by Irish artist Bennie Reilly, also lead vocalist/songwriter with Little Xs For Eyes. It was recorded by Keith Byrne in the band’s home studio and mixed by Rian Trench of Solar Bears fame….
Corrina Jaye releases her new single ‘Gold’ on June 20, which follows on from excellent debut ‘Dark Room’. Having sold out her debut headline show in Whelan’s last year, Corrina returns to the venue on July 4 to give the track an official launch.
Corrina and her band recently supported Kammerpop and have also shared the stage with the likes of The Shoos, Roisin O and The Young Folk…..
Mullingar quartet The Academic make their international festival bow at Spain’s Benicassim Festival in July. They've also been confirmed as the Pixies' Live At The Marquee support and will be wowing crowds here at Longitude and Indiependence. Another batch of teenagers from the midlands on the rise!!!
