In addition to providing an amazing line up of music and offering numerous panels to attend, Metropolis is also a cutting edge place for visual arts and installations. They will, for example, be bringing the world’s largest disco ball to Dublin (pictured). But that’s not all!
• Andy Warhol’s Silver Clouds: originally installed in New York’s Leo Castelli Gallery in 1966, these balloons were created as a collaboration between Andy Warhol and engineer Billy Klüver. The festival has received special permission to host this extraordinary installation, which will feature balloons, like floating metallic pillows, filled with a mixture of helium, nitrogen and ambient air. The balloon hover at eye level, allowing you to become a part of the installation and challenging the traditional notion of art as something to be viewed and not touched.
• Art collective Labyrinth are producing an installation and petition piece, in partnership with the Repeal Project – and curated in collaboration with the production agency, Algorithm. April Delaney of Labyrinth comments: “Since Repeal the 8th seeks to give a voice to an issue that needs to be heard, we thought it would be interesting to literally project the issue further, using a projection installation that will exist as an alternative interpretation of the traditional petition format.” This digital petition will be open for people to sign, with each signature becoming a part of the installation. There will also be limited edition Repeal clothing on sale. All the proceeds will go to Repeal Project.
• Algorithim are also creating a bespoke stage design for the Shelbourne Hall. The group’s forte is integrating video, custom LED fixtures and projection mapping to create a completely original hybrid.

• An L.A.-based company specialising in interactive environments and creative lighting design, The Do LaB use natural materials, found objects and sustainable resources. They have been involved in some fantastically innovative designs at festivals like Burning Man, Coachella, BOOM Festival and more. They will be creating a bespoke, interactive installation, transforming the Industries Hall into a visual extravaganza. • A 16-foot Metropolis ‘M’ will mark the entrance to the festival and attendees are encouraged to sign as they make their way into Metropolis ‘16.
• The festival will also feature ten, giant 16-foot daisies, which have previously been on display in Somerset House.
