We round up the best festivals happening outside of Ireland this summer.
For four days every summer, the 17th century Petrovaradin Fortress opens its gates for EXIT – the award-winning music festival. EXIT began in 2000 as a student protest fighting for political change, and over the years it’s grown into one of Europe’s biggest festivals, with festival-goers partying in the stunning citadel perched high on a cliff overlooking the River Danube. The positive activism remains in the air, and each year has a specific theme (this year is EXIT Tribe). EXIT has possibly the most diverse line-up of any European festival, with over 1000 artists performing on more than 40 stages and zones connected by cobbled streets, ramparts and tunnels. The Dance Arena is the festival’s energetic hub, with 20,000 raving in the fortress moat waiting for the awe-inspiring moment when the sun rises above the ancient walls. It’s also important to remember that Novi Sad, ‹The Gibraltar On the Daniube› was named one of 2019›s top 10 destinations by Lonely Planet, and is this year’s European Youth Capital. You won›t be disappointed by the Serbian summer, boasting sunny days and clear July skies.
