Carpark Sci-Fi has upcoming gigs across Ireland, with tickets now to his show in Workman's on May 31st.
Gav Cowley, aka Carpark Sci-Fi, has announced his debut EP This is.
The artist recently joined Cleveland Ohio’s Blue Arrow Records, and together they had already released the single, 'Winter Sun' on March 15, 2023. The song perfectly encapsulates Carpark Sci-Fi's unique and elegantly coarse sound. Produced by Rian Trench at the helm as the recording engineer, the upcoming EP will come in both CD and digital format.
Cowley works with both audio and visual, describing himself on his Instagram as, "Strummer. Scribbler." Creating aesthetic visuals to play along side his low, rugged voice, the vivid images of his music videos offer us a brief insight to his expressive and deeply poetic mind.
"I love visual art and music so this is kind of trying to work out a way making both together, like it's me making a drawing or scribbling an animation piece then seeing something in it," he described. "Maybe it's the rhythm of a particular part of what I'm seeing that will inspire a bass line or a melody, or a beat. Equally it might something I'm humming that inspires a little animation piece and so on."

The multi-skilled artist had no plans to release an EP originally until Blue Arrow Records reached out to him. "I would usually just post things on my instagram for fun or whatever, then I suppose you begin to connect with like minded individuals and the nature of the internet, I guess, is they can be anywhere. That's when Blue Arrow Records got in touch with me and said they would like to put something out."
Cowley is an avid songwriter and an established figure in the Dublin underground scene, having worked in the past with bands such as Boxes and later with Glimmermen. Recently however, he has turned his ventures more towards honing in his skills as a songwriter and dabbling in new ways to express himself through music and art. Carpark Sci-Fi has become a product of this experience, where he combines both his visual art and gifted voice.
He described one of this typical shows as, "a combination of original songs, visuals and sounds. Part setlist, part sketchbook, performed live." This allows him to ensure a deeply personal, cathartic experience for his audience.
