Having formed in the chaos of 2020, Indie rock duo Cathal Flaherty and Partick Kelly began by sending ideas back and forth before the lifting of lockdown allowed them to begin recording at Camden Recording Studios, Dublin.
Irish indie-rock duo, Fake Friends, have released their debut single, ‘Maybe.’ This is the two musicians' first offering since being able to meet up after lockdown.
'Maybe' ponders the potential of a future relationship with a soul mate the protagonist spots across the room.
Taking the listener through the imagining of a relationship with this prospective partner with lyrics like, “But I know that my heart won’t break again”... “Even though I barely know your name,” the singer’s renewed faith in the promise shown in this stranger gives an uplifting sentiment to the track.
The palpable hope is articulated in the chorus's repeated mantra of “Maybe it all works out/ Maybe it all works out.”
With catchy electric guitar riffs, and a drum and cymbal rhythm punctuating throughout, sounds the song’s own heartbeat’s flutters.
