Listen to Sive's latest offering 'Beira', taken from her forthcoming album We Begin in Darkness.
Following the ethereal 2021 track 'Winter', Irish folk singer Sive is back with a similarly dreamy offering, 'Beira'.
Written at the height of summer, the new track explores a pining for darkness during long, sun-filled days β a longing for the rest and retreat the colder months allow.
As a reference to the queen of winter in Scottish mythology, Sive explores the idea that 'Beira' is misunderstood.
"We need to lean into her shadows in order to fully appreciate the light," Sive said of the track.
The yearning described in the song is paired with rich string flourishes and gentle echoing guitar. The Naas native's idyllic vocals β often compared to the likes of Lisa Hannigan and Joni Mitchell β glide along the track, leaning into the folkier side of her sound.

The single is the latest teaser of the up-and-comers second full length album, We Begin in Darkness, coming on April 28. Sive has already excited fans with her previous singles 'Winter' and 'Think Before I Speak.'
Both tracks received marked attention including RTE 1, Folk Radio UK, BBC NI, Brighton's Folklore sessions and Hot Press Track of the Day.
Judging by the tastes of the LP so far, We Begin in Darkness promises the same haunting vocals and delicate musicality Sive is making her name on.

Ahead of the album release, the folk singer will play a album launch show in Dublin's Workman's Cellar on May 19.
Sive released her debut LP The Roaring Girl in 2017, following a succesful crowd funding campaign. After receiving critical acclaim on the record, she shared the stage with fellow Irish folk singer Lisa Hannigan, Kila, Mick Flannery, Cathy Davey and Gemma Hayes across Europe and New Zealand.
