Inspired by Roman mythology, Ekko explores what it means to have a voice.
Irish-Norwegian artist Tara Nome Doyle has announced the release of her new album Ekko – out April 11.
With an accompanying music video directed by Mateusz Miszczyński, Doyle also released the second single off the album ‘Lighthouse,’ preceded by ‘The Overgrown Path’ in December of last year. Her European tour will begin in May.
Ekko touches on themes of pain, new beginnings and acceptance. While largely self-produced, Doyle collaborated with Grammy Award winning producer and sound engineer Simon Goff, known for his involvement in The Joker and Chernobyl.
"I wrote ‘Lighthouse’ for a friend who was going through a difficult time. I saw myself in her struggles to please everyone while neglecting her own needs,” Doyle said. “This song is meant to be a warm embrace, offering reassurance and gentle encouragement. The mantra ‘those who matter won’t mind, and those who mind don’t matter’ has guided me through my lowest moments, and it felt meaningful to share it through this song. I hope it reaches someone who needs to hear it, remember it and repeat it."
The name of the album was inspired by a myth from Ovid’s Metamorphoses. Cursed by Juno, a nymph named Echo loses the ability to form her own sentences, and eventually falls in love with an uninterested hunter, Narcissus. The heartache causes Echo to waste away until all that’s left is her voice, repeating the words of others.
"Echo’s story—losing her voice and sense of self as she’s cursed to repeat others’ words—felt like a powerful metaphor for my own journey. I went from creating unique songs with ease to relying heavily on external validation, twisting myself to fit others’ expectations and losing touch with who I was," said Doyle. "With this album, I wanted to strip away those layers of doubt and rediscover my true voice. It’s about reconnecting with myself and creating music that feels honest, otherworldly, and cathartic. Not mirroring what other people want to see, but what I need to show them."

Doyle also has experience in television, helping write the soundtrack for Netflix’s Munich – The Edge of War alongside Isobel Waller-Bridge, and contributing to Three Women on Starz. Additionally, her music was featured in HBO’s Generation.
