Christian Cohle, Ireland’s home grown singer-songwriter and electronic producer is dropping his second album, Wetlands on May 12th, with a launch show to follow in Whelan’s on Friday, May 19th.
Souring inspiration from Bon Iver’s production methods and Berlin’s Moderat music, to Blade Runner, Cohle creates a musical fusion of what has been so-named 'ambient-pop' or 'atmospheric electronic'.
This album follows previous acclaimed singles like 'Spinning Heart', 'Strength', and 'Another Life'. As the singer-songwriter’s sound continues to evolve, he draws upon a range of genres in this record, from alt-pop to jazzy-soul.
Closing track, 'Our Last Dance', is Wetlands’ focus song, featuring a beautifully stark and haunting music video, shot and directed by Oscar-winning cinematographer Narayan Van Maele. Opening and closing the visual is a bittersweet moment- a real facetime call from Cohle’s ex, reconnecting a year after the demise of their relationship. The electronic atmospheric ballad features a stunning vocal performance from Cohle, closing out what ultimately is an expansive sonic love letter exploring the struggles of leaving a relationship prematurely.

Wetlands documents the producer’s struggles and doubts during 2020-2021 whilst breaking up with his now ex-girlfriend, which opens just after the fear that has gripped him after his relationship has taken a turn for the worse. The record follows Cohle’s spiralling journey for as long as a year on this introspective record.
Set in Japan, South Korea and Ireland- where the artist was at the time- Wetlands will make its debut as a finely-crafted breakup album, full of field recordings and phone conversations between Cohle and his ex, which includes beautiful solo piano performances and massive soundscape electronica to even alternative/progressive moments- all supported by the stunning vocal arrangements of Christian Cohle.
Tickets for the Wetlands album launch are available now from €14 via Whelanslive.com.
