'They Recognised Him' is the lead single off of his newly announced upcoming EP, Hee Haw.
The Irish folk singer-songwriter Seamus Fogarty has announced the release of a new EP out later this year on the label Lost Map, called Hee Haw. The EP's lead single is out today, a quirky spoken word track called 'They Recognised Him', and the EP is set to release on 27 October.
Already set to perform a series of shows around the UK and Ireland this fall, Fogarty will also perform a London headliner at St Mary's Music Hall on 30 November. He also announced a headline show at Cleere's Bar and Theatre in Kilkenny on Friday 8 December.
*Unbelievably* happy to be releasing A NEW SINGLE - TODAY - on @LostMap, one of *the* great labels
'They Recognised Him' is from a new EP called 'Hee Haw' & its 'a dolorously funny spoken word lament set to queasily detuned guitar chords & wheezing synth'https://t.co/JtN8rmPChC pic.twitter.com/TeSrGU2kb6— seamus fogarty music (@seamusfog) September 12, 2023
On 'They Recognised Him', Fogarty explained, “I got into the idea of doing a spoken word track after spending a good portion of 2021 and 2022 listening to early 90s hip hop while collaborating on the soundtrack to an Irish movie called ‘Sunlight’ with my friend Barry Ward. Ordinarily I would be far too self-conscious to make something like this, but I found myself really enjoying this slightly new approach to writing lyrics and the story just fell on to the page. It started out being quite humorous but the lockdown and the months following it were so tough, I wanted to write a song with a really solid backbone that would serve as a message to myself and to whoever else might listen.”

Born in Co. Mayo, Fogarty emerged within the music scene in 2012 with the release of his critically received debut album God Damn You Mountain. He's had several releases since, including 2015's Ducks and Drakes EP, 2017’s The Curious Hand and 2020’s A Bag Of Eyes.
Currently, Fogarty is supporting Lisa O'Neill on her run of shows, concluding at Dublin's Vicar Street venue on 9 December.
