Iron And Wine's first release in seven years, Light Verse , embarks on a journey towards joy and catharsis, featuring sweeping orchestral arrangements and a duet with Fiona Apple.
Iron And Wine has announced that his seventh full-length album Light Verse will be released on 26th April via Sub Pop. The ten-track compendium was produced by the act’s principal singer-songwriter Sam Beam with mixing and engineering chops from Dave Way at Waystation and Silent Zoo Studios in Los Angeles. Light Verse is the first record from Iron And Wine in over seven years and follows his two Grammy-nominated releases, 2017’s Beast Epic and 2018’s Weed Garden EP.
With this new album, Beam’s lyrics draw on a series of fictional and personal insights, suffused with despondent characters and wide-eyed optimists, offering promise and a heaping dose of heartache, tears and laughter, life and love. It’s also his most playful record, its title reflecting how the songs came from a place of joy after the heaviness of the pandemic. Where Beast Epic and Weed Garden gave air to the disquiet of mid-life vulnerability, Light Verse trades that for the focus acceptance can bring.
Parallel to his album announcement, Iron And Wine has shared a mesmeric new single, ‘You Never Know,’ on which you can feast your ears below. As the song opens, Beam's wintry falsetto bleeds through the sparse strings and guitar, slowly revealing a propulsive rhythm section that builds towards cathartic closure.

Light Verse involves a cast of well-rounded musicians who brought their own stamp of authenticity to Beam’s vision. Joining were Tyler Chester (keyboards), Sebastian Steinberg (bass), David Garza (guitar), Griffin Goldsmith, Beth Goodfellow, Kyle Crane (all drums/percussion) and Paul Cartwright (strings). A 24-piece orchestra appeared on four tracks and Fiona Apple lent her anthemic vocals to a duet called 'All In Good Time.'
This summer, Iron And Wine will enter on a North American headline tour supporting Light Verse, starting in June and ending in August. Further information on tour dates and tickets are available here.
