This new album follows in the footsteps of 2020's There Is No Other
Renowned Glasgow singer-songwriter Isobel Campbell has announced her upcoming album Bow To Love, slated for release on May 17th, along with tender new single ‘4316’. This new record will be a follow-up to her 2020 effort There Is No Other, released after a decade away from the studio due to label troubles.
Alongside the announcement, a music video for ‘4316’ was released, shot in and around Hastings by acclaimed director Richard Heslop, known for his work with Queen, The Cure, and New Order, among others.
On the subject matter of the new record, Campbell explained, “the album is about what we’re all in now, and my response to that and my life as a macrocosm within that.” She casts her net wider on Bow To Love than on her previous efforts, reflecting on modern crises and going deeper than a simple diagnosis of our problems as a society.
Some songs were conceptualised as early as 2016, when Brexit and the rise of Donald Trump exacerbated what Campbell describes as “real tension” amongst people. In fact, soul-pop track ‘Keep Calm Carry On’ was written in 2016 when collaborator and co-producer Chris Szczech texted her from New York about the Brexit Vote, with Campbell recalling, “Chris was saying, ‘It looks like it’s going to happen’ but I was like, ‘No Way’. And actually- ‘Way’. It did happen”.
In making the album, Campbell chose a comfortable environment that spoke to her, recording and co-producing the album with Szczech in his studio in Los Angeles. The resulting record is inquisitive, complex, and fully matured, from an artist who has had a long and storied career.

First noticed as a teen with Belle & Sebastian, she left in 2002 to pursue other musical prospects, releasing two dream-folk albums as The Gentle Waves and subsequently releasing two records under her own name, before recording a trio of duet albums with the late, great Mark Lanegan.
On Bow To Love, Campbell suggests that the world’s ongoing troubles are clear, with the artist commenting “Anyone with two eyes, a brain and a heart can see that people are struggling, and I suppose I have a lot of thoughts about that. And it’s this album.”
Bow To Love will be released through Cooking Vinyl on May 17th. The first edition of the album on CD will include an exclusive bonus disc featuring French translations of the songs from the album. There will also be limited vinyl copies of the album available, in both blue and yellow formats.
