It's All True
As an Icelandic band, Bellatrix will inevitably be compared to Bjvrk and Sigur Ros.
As an Icelandic band, Bellatrix will inevitably be compared to Bjvrk and Sigur Ros. However, the pedestrian indie fare which makes up the bulk of It's All True proves that there is nothing in the (ice) water that guarantees the production of other-worldly music.
Songs like 'The Girl With The Sparkling Eyes' and 'Sweet Surrender' have a certain pop panache - but they suffer from a sugary eighties-style production, laden with sharp and shiny keyboards and guitar sounds which can be slightly indigestible.
The songs work best when stripped down. These less flippant, slow balladic tracks, which, co-incidentally, are written solely by Eliza without the aid of her bandmates, are quite lovely and almost make up for what the rest of the album lacks.
That said, this could be one to grow on you, especially if you don't mind developing a sweet tooth.
