The Grammy Award-winning rapper wiped his Instagram page clean ahead of the announcement.
In the run up to his record label Dreamville’s highly anticipated compilation album, Revenge of the Dreamers III, J. Cole has announced that he will release a new single tomorrow.
The North Carolina rapper, who was the Friday headliner of last year's Longitude, posted a statement across his social media channels, announcing that an upcoming single, ‘Middle Child’, will be released on Wednesday. Cole also hinted that the track is a collaboration with producer T-Minus, who he also worked with on his most recent studio album, KOD, released last April.
Cole deleted everything from his Instagram profile ahead of the announcement. The blank Instagram profile is a tactic several artists, including Kendrick Lamar, have used in recent years to build hype in the run up to a new release.
2019 is set to be a busy year for J. Cole. In August 2018, the rapper announced that his upcoming mixtape, The Off Season, would be “coming soon.” The mixtape is expected to arrive before The Fall Off, his highly anticipated full-length follow-up to last year’s KOD. Generating further speculation, Cole published a playlist on streaming services in November entitled ‘Where the fuck is The Off Season.’
Revenge of the Dreamers III, meanwhile, was recorded earlier this month, and will feature contributions from across the Dreamville team, which includes J. Cole, Bas, Cozz, Omen, J.I.D., Lute, EarthGang and Ari Lennox. Big K.R.I.T., DJ Khaled, Rapsody, Vince Staples, Wale, and Rick Ross, among others, were all invited to attend the recording sessions.
