The event has received support from President Michael D. Higgins and Adi Roche.
Tomorrow, April 26, there will be a concert to mark the 31st anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Hosted by Set Theatre in Kilkenny, the event has gotta widespread support, including a shout out from Adi Roche before she embarked on her trip to Ukraine for the inauguration of ‘Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day.’
“Heartfelt thanks to everyone on behalf of the victims and survivors of the Chernobyl disaster,” Roche said. “This fantastic concert is not only about raising funds but about compassion from the Irish people, the support from musicians lending their talents and most importantly about sending a message of solidarity & love to the people of Belarus and Ukraine.” President Michael D. Higgins referred to the day of remembrance as a “beacon of hope.”
Recent additions to the lineup include Kildare native Jack L and Dublin folk duo Cry Monster Cry. Along with music from Bell X1’s Paul Noonan, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Gavin Glass, Ollie Cole, and The Man Whom, the event will also showcase poems from writer Stephen James Smith. All proceeds will go toward summer recuperation programmes that bring children from Belarus and Ukraine here to Ireland, and toward medical supplies for the Vesnova Orphange in Belarus.
