The electro-rock band's frontman has revealed that LCD Soundsystem will not go back on tour without new material.
LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy has revealed that the band is on hiatus while appearing as a guest on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast.
When asked about post-pandemic shows, Murphy remarked "we are not rehearsing" , much to the disappointment of fans of the Brooklyn outfit.
The electronic band, formed in 2002, last released music in 2019 with their live album Electric Lady Sessions. However, their last gig took place over three years ago in June 2018.
It's been four long years since LCD Soundsystem released their last album featuring full material, American Dream. This is the same amount of time they stayed in retirement after their 2011 farewell show, but Murphy insists the group are officially on "full-hiatus".
In the 90 minute podcast, Murphy chatted about his career, touching on his experience of turning down working with David Bowie and setting up his restaurant. When Maron probed him about upcoming projects he answered, “because of the nature of the band, when we’re not touring, we’re just, like, back to normal life completely. Everyone does other stuff. Everyone has their own things going on."

“So for us to put a new album together, we just kind of have to decide to do it,” he said, adamant that he doesn’t “want to go out on tour without new music”.
Murphy said he had spent the pandemic building his studio, going fishing, raising a new baby, and focusing on his restaurant. When Maron asked him further about music, Murphy's only responce was, "None. No work."
