As part of Lowline, the world's first underground park
LCD Soundsystem-mastermind James Murphy has been long at work on what he has called a "Subway Symphony". Now, the endeavour seems to be on the verge of realization.
The project has been an attempt to create turnstiles that play musical compositions. It will be a cornerstone of Lowline, which is slated to be the world's first underground park. Though the New York park has admitted visitors since last year, it is still under development.
In a new promotional video, LCD Soundsystem member Nancy Whang walks through the park as it stands now, discusses her bandmate's contribution to the park, and details what's to come for the park.
The reaction to the Lowline project has included detractors. Some have asserted that the park will raise Lower East Side property values and point out that the project has been organized by CEOs, investment bankers, and other members of the financial elite.
