The Dublin native confirmed that ‘Grapefruit Season’ will land on July 16th, sharing his 2022 tour dates in the process.
Irish singer-songwriter James Vincent McMorrow has announced his fifth album Grapefruit Season, sharing his brand new track 'Waiting' as a treat for his ever-expanding fanbase.
Following the recent single ‘Gone’ and a collaborative musical project ‘Be Somebody’, his forthcoming LP is promising to be another success.
Throughout his career, James has always been trying to explore new ways of making music and go beyond his previous works. Produced in collaboration with Paul Epworth, Kenny Beats, Lil Silva and Patrick Wimberly (Chairlift), the recording of Grapefruit Season took place between London, Los Angeles and Dublin. Its main concept surrounds the idea that life is an utter chaos, and we have no choice but to accept this notion and take advantage of it. Being initiated before the start of the pandemic that, in fact, might have been a prophecy.
McMorrow explains the meaning behind his latest project, expressing the need for escapism:
“I don’t know if any of this makes any sense - but ‘Grapefruit Season’ is about embracing the idea nothing makes sense. None of it is supposed to be linear. Music isn't some holy grail to a greater meaning. It's supposed to remove you from where you are for a moment and take you somewhere else.”

Each song on the album has a telling name and a distinct sound, while still being connected by the common theme and James’ unique vocals. This theme is reflected in the album title which refers to the singer-songwriter’s challenging life decision of pursuing a musical career. He believes that people shall follow their natural instincts and do what they genuinely want in life despite the high risks. Like eating a grapefruit, it might be bitter in the beginning, but eventually it will benefit you in full.
Referencing the title track, James opens up about his experience of enduring the ongoing COVID chaos:
“This last year has been a massive lesson in patience for all of us. But I don’t feel any more patient than I did before, in fact the opposite, I feel impatient. I had this album finished last year and then the world stopped, and I had to stop. I remember sitting in my car crying after I heard that we'd be parking the work until 2021, and then I wrote ‘Waiting.’ It’s a song about feeling sorry for myself, and then going home and talking to the one person in my life who understands just how awkward a fit all of this is for me, and who loves me for the actual human I am and not what I curate in order to feel like the person I need to be.”

James’ UK and European tour has been confirmed to go ahead in 2022. Luckily for us, McMorrow is set to play two shows at Dublin's Olympia Theatre on April 19th and 20th.
