Off the back of his sixth studio album release, the ever-rising Irish talent debuted a new video which sees the singer exploring themes of honesty and understanding.
Irish singer-songwriter James Vincent McMorrow premiered the music video for ‘Hurricane,’ a new song off the artist’s freshly released full length record, The Less I Knew. Directed by Ellius Grace, the video features multiple characters set to the tune of McMorrow’s dreamy voice aside a soul-stirring, gospel choir.
Grace and McMorrow hosted a Q&A for fans following the premiere, giving fans a space to ask both the artist and director questions surrounding the video.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the video, McMorrow shares, “I've been fascinated with the idea of actual candid honesty for a while, what it means, how to get there, what is actually honest and what is us just presenting a curated version of ourselves to people. Ellius came up with an idea for a video that played with the idea of reality so perfectly. watching people go through something, not understanding until the end what is happening and what it does or doesn't mean.”
The singer also revealed that his new video is one you have to see through to the very end. “When I watched his finished video for the first time, it really made me question the reactions I'd had in real time as it was unfolding. I found that really compelling, because my responses were real, and when I watched it again, I still had the same responses, even though I knew how it ended,” says McMorrow. “I think that's the brilliance of a great video, it can ask questions but not sink under the weight of them.”

Preceding the release of his album, McMorrow said of ‘Hurricane,’ “I've stood on stage in the last 2 weeks and performed it and I can exist within every single line. I can't say that about every song I've ever written. I listen to it, I get to certain moments, and it makes me smile every time. I believe it will always make me smile.”
The Irish singer and producer dropped his sixth studio album, recorded at Black Mountain Studios in Ireland, into our open hands at the end of June and has since received high praise for the project. The self-produced, eight-track full length The Less I Knew saw the indie artist travelling into more diverse territories, from garage rock to R&B.
A companion album to McMorrow’s recent record, Heavyweight Champion of Dublin 8, is scheduled for a fall release. The forthcoming album was recorded during the same sessions as The Less I Knew, hinting at an expansion of the Irish artist’s refreshing new sound.
James Vincent McMorrow is currently travelling on his ‘pop up’ tour, stopping off in New York, Paris, London, L.A., Amsterdam and Toronto for a select few shows, with more information available here.
