James Vincent McMorrow has pulled together two Whelan's shows, with the help of some music industry friends, which will take place on March 10th and 11th. All proceeds from the gigs will go towards Women's Aid.

Night number one will feature all things 2000s indie-rock, while the second event will celebrate the emo genre.

Writing the details on his Instagram page this afternoon, the Malahide native expressed his excitement at finally turning these shows into reality.

"It felt like the right time to do this, to all be in the same room again singing absolute classics at the top of our lungs, laughing, crying, dancing. I’ve missed all that stuff so much. The band is being put together by @joefurlongbass. I'll be doing a lot of the singing, I'll also be roping in as many guest performers as I can find in the next couple months. I've already got some great people signed up to do it!"

"I am genuinely beyond excited to be doing this, these are a lot of the songs that made me who I am, it's' gonna be a joy to get to sing them," the 'Poison To You' singer added.

Meanwhile, the Dublin singer-songwriter was forced to cancel his US and Canadian tour dates this week, originally scheduled for March of this year, as a result of the uncertainty surrounding Covid regulations.

"The bad news is that we are going to pull the US/Canadian tour in March. We won't be putting in new dates so all tickets are refundable at point of purchase," McMorrow wrote.

"I am truly sorry this is happening, I have gotten too used to, as we all have, postponing or cancelling."

The singer thanked his team for working hard to curb any Covid concerns but, ultimately the reality of bringing a whole crew over from Ireland left too many variables at play.

His latest album, Grapefruit Season, was fully released in 2021 after slowly rolling out over a year and a half. McMorrow wants to move on from his latest work now that he feels his "vision coming back."

"Music means everything to me...I got into this to make things that compelled me and compelled you," he said. "In 2022, I intend to do all of that with the spirit and focus that is required."

The genre-bending artist was last heard on a one-off single from last December, 'I'd Love If You Stayed,' to celebrate the Christmas season.
