The English singer-songwriter, and original signee to Ed Sheeran's record label, has released the first single off his highly anticipated new album, The Years In Between.
Back in 2015, Jamie Lawson made headlines as the first artist signed to Ed Sheeran's record label, Gingerbread Man Records. Nearly four years later, the English singer-songwriter is preparing to release his second album with the label, and his fifth studio album overall, The Years In Between.
Ahead of the album's March 29 release date, Lawson has shared a new single, 'The Answer'. The track, which he describes in his press release as "a tender love song [that] transformed into a fun, indie bop", had its first exclusive play on Ken Bruce's BBC Radio 2 show this morning.
On the process behind the new single, Jamie has revealed: "I was on a train from somewhere to London listening to a lot of instrumental music when suddenly the idea for this track came to me. The lyrics started flowing and by the time I reached the studio... I’d written most of the song."
The Years In Between was written and recorded while Lawson supported Ed Sheeran on his 46-date UK and European tour, which included four sold out nights at London's Wembley Stadium. These recordings were then brought together in Dublin's Camden Recording Studios by Grammy Award-winning producer Ruadhri Cushnan, who has previously worked with the likes of Ed Sheeran, Mumford & Sons, and Shawn Mendes.
Despite his current status as a star on the rise, Lawson's early success was mostly limited to Ireland, where he lived for some time. In between gigs, the English singer-songwriter also worked in Dublin's Tower Records.
Since signing to Sheeran's Gingerbread Man Records, Lawson's single 'Wasn't Expecting That' has sold over a million copies around the world. In 2016, the hit single beat Sheeran's 'Bloodstream' for the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically.
