Another musician has passed away, leaving behind a beautiful legacy.
Mississippi man, Mose Allison, passed away of natural causes yesterday at his home in South Carolina at the age of 89.
He will be remembered most for his southern style influence on great artists like Van Morrison, the Who, Jimi Hendrix, and the Yardbirds. Not many people know that the Who based their song 'My Generation' off of Allison's 'Young Man Blues.' In 1973, Bonnie Raitt covered his tune 'Everybody's Crying Mercy.' And in 1996, the album Tell Me Something: The Songs of Mose Allison featured a collaboration by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison, Georgie Fame, Mose Allison and Ben Sidran.
Beginning his musical career in the mid 1950's, Allison could never be put into one musical category, as he was s a jazz pianist who sang blues, and a blues artist who played jazz piano.
In 2013, Allison received the highest honour a jazz musician can receive: the National Endowment for the Arts jazz masters fellowship.
He has been called the "William Faulkner of Jazz"
