Dublin-based musician Jess Kav has announced the premiere of her musical play Fermented Dreams, which will show at Bewleys Cafe Theatre from September 9 to 14. The play is part of this year's Dublin Fringe Festival.
An amalgam of Kav’s solo musical work, her experiences in the music industry and her emerging talent in theatre, Fermented Dreams includes seven unreleased songs, around which the artist has written a semi-autobiographical script.
It is described as a “coming of age story for the adults who didn’t get the memo in their teens” and is musically co-written with Geoff Warner Clayton (musical director with Gavin James) and accompanied by Sean Gilligan – who also featured in Mother of All The Behans with Imelda May.

"I think there is something interesting about the interdisciplinary nature of music at the moment,” Jess Kav says of her debut as a theatre writer. "We all seem to be moving into different fields and finding meaning in new mediums it seems!”

The musician – who featured on the front cover of Hot Press as lead singer with the band BARQ – is also set to release an accompanying single, titled ‘Genesis’, in September. A powerhouse vocalist, Jess has worked with many of Ireland's leading musical lights, including Hozier, Villagers, Kodaline, The Commitments, Jape, Le Galaxie and The Waterboys.
Fermented Dreams is being co-directed by Laura Sheeran (Persona) and Esosa Ighordaro (The Octoroon, Abbey Theatre)
Also set to appear at Dublin Fringe Festival are Sexy Tadhg; Mel Mercier, Mónckk, Iarla Ó Lionáird, Mikel Murfi and Caoimhe Ní Fhlatharta, with their show Earth Sonnet; comedians Erin McCarthy, Killian Sundermann, Shane Daniel Byrne and David O’Deherty; and Palestinian-Irish musician and songwriter Róisín el Cherif.
