Listen to the lead single, 'Life Is,' from Jessica Pratt's forthcoming LP Here In The Pitch below.
Jessica Pratt has announced her fourth album — and first in five years — Here In The Pitch will be released on 3 May via City Slang. Alongside the news, the singer has shared the lead single 'Life Is' with a dazzling video accompaniment. Additionally, Pratt has announced a spring and summer tour throughout Europe, UK and the USA.
Over her 12-year career, the revered Los Angeles artist has become one of the most singular songwriters of her time, largely through the mystical, elusive blend of instrumentals and the singer's notably breathtaking vocals. Here In The Pitch, however, marks a new adventure for the singer and features some of her most adventurous music yet.
She envisioned a more panoramic sound and set of influences. Throughout the LP's nine songs, timpani, glockenspiel, baritone saxophone, and flute are layered with robust vocal arrangements that create a triumphant mood, even when the lyrics hint at devastation.

This broader production palette is apparent in the record's lead single, 'Life Is.' A percussion roll nods to the grand, orchestral style of ’60s pop sensibilities. Meanwhile, the lyrics are an impressionistic paean to the vagaries of ambition.
"Life came and went and you didn’t land where you thought you would," Pratt says of the song. "It’s the third act and you’re trying to climb back on the horse before it gets dark."
The mesmeric video, co-directed by Colby Droscher and Pratt herself, was shot around New York City in late 2023 and draws inspiration from the films of Kenneth Anger and Stan Brakhage.
Five years following her 2019 breakthrough album Quiet Signs, Pratt has returned with new ambition and new parameters for her soundscapes. Reuniting with trusted collaborators — multi-instrumentalist/engineer Al Carlson and keyboardist Matt McDermott — the singer enlisted the rhythm duo of bassist Spencer Zahn and percussionist Mauro Refosco, as well as contributions from Peter Mudge, Ryley Walker and Alex Goldberg.
