Is it Groundhog Day? Or is this just Kanye being Kanye...
It's a story Kanye West fans are getting to know all to well: don't trust album release dates.
The anticipation was high for Kanye's alleged upcoming album, Jesus is King, which was set for release on the last Friday of September. Well, Friday came and went, and we are still short of a new Kanye West album. The release date was revealed initially during a Sunday Service in Indiana.
However, for a handful of fans, when the clock struck midnight they'd had the privilege of taking a listen to Jesus is King. The Chicago rapper debuted the album on Friday night to a number of lucky fans in Detroit, Michigan. He also held listening sessions in Chicago and New York over the weekend.
Meanwhile, his wife Kim Kardashian reassured fans that the album was on its way and that it would be worth the wait. Taking to Twitter, Kardashian posted an updated track list with the caption "Have faith..." and announced in an Instagram story that the album would in fact be out on Sunday.
"He's dropping the album Sunday," she said. "Just a few final tweaks to the mixes."

Well, now it is officially no longer Sunday in any corner of the world and – unless Spotify is broken and everybody on Twitter is lying – we still have not heard Jesus is King.
Does this story sound familiar? Perhaps it's because Ye and Co. have pulled this act before.
Exactly a year ago, fans were in the same predicament. After announcing he'd drop his album, Yandhi, on 29 September 2018, only to miss the deadline and have his wife tweet out reassurance for fans.
"Nov 23 Black Friday YANDHI," Kardashian wrote. "TRUST ME it is worth the wait".

Yandhi, of course, never saw the light of day.
So, fans have turned to the few lucky attendees at the secret listening sessions from the weekend for any hints about the album.
However, according to a spokesperson at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, which hosted the first session, the rapper had booked the venue the day of and refused to share details. The event, called Jesus Is King: A Kanye West Experience, allegedly featured an advance preview of the album, as well as a clip from the artist's upcoming IMAX documentary, Jesus is Lord.
Little is known about Jesus Is King: A Kanye West Experience as all attendees were forced to leave their phones at the doors.
Kim Kardashian did retweet a video from the Experience in New York City last night, but no further details were given about an updated release.
Needless to say, fans aren't thrilled that on the anniversary of the Yandhi fiasco, they've been deprived of yet another Kanye West album.

One fan pledged to give up his over 30 pairs of Yeezys, sneakers designed by West. "IF THIS ALBUM DONT DROP TODAY IM DONE BEING A KANYE FAN," wrote @MyCruelThoughts on Twitter. "IM GONNA GIVE AWAY MORE THAN 30 PAIRS OF YEEZYS IN A SIZE 10.5 RT IF YOU WANT ONE. #JesusIsKing"

Others decided to blame his wife for giving people false hope. "kim kardashian isnt allowed to announce kanye’s albums anymore," wrote Twitter user @melancholicmex.

One thing, however, was clear amongst fans: nobody's really surprised the album hasn't arrived.

This is just another episode of Kanye being Kanye, folks.
