Jimi Hendrix Experience: Hollywood Bowl August 18, 1967 includes a recording of one of Hendrix's last performances as a relative unknown.
On the 53rd anniversarry of his death in 1970, Experience Hendrix LLC. is releasing a live record of an iconic performance of The Jimi Hendrix Experience as they opened for The Mamas & The Papas in 1967. Jimi Hendrix Experience: Hollywood Bowl August 18, 1967 will release November 10th on CD and vinyl as well as digitally, and feature both covers and some of Hendrix's most beloved tracks.
Ahead of the release, one track has been made available to stream: the live version of Hendrix's hit "Killing Floor". You can check it out below, and preorder the full record here.
The featured performance, as referenced in the title of the record, is a 1967 performance at the Hollywood Bowl as Hendrix and his band opened for The Mamas & The Papas. The concert took place just five days before the release of their massive debut record Are You Experienced and is notable as one of the very last times they performed in front of an audience that didn't necessarily know who they were.
A mini-documentary, Monterey Pop To The Hollywood Bowl, has also been released and follows Hendrix's rise to musical success in the US from June to August 1967. It also features interviews from some of the biggest names in music both then and now, including The Mamas & The Papas vocalist Michelle Phillips, Paul McCartney guitarist Brian Ray and more.
