Both tracks are inevitably leading to Carpenter's 'Lost Themes III', an album teased since 2018.
American filmmaker, screenwriter and composer John Carpenter is back with new non-soundtrack music, with the Master of Horror announcing a 12-inch single featuring two songs this morning.
'Skeleton' and 'Unclean Spirit' are due for release on August 28 via Sacred Bones Records, and marks his first non-soundtrack songs since Lost Themes II.
Backed by his son Cody Carpenter and his godson Daniel Davies, the composer has curated dystopian, dark tracks without committing to one genre.
“It was refreshing to be able to write music that didn’t have to fit to any sort of locked image," Carpenter said of the new single.
"We also had a specific focus and direction we wanted to follow when working on Halloween, both in terms of mindset and instruments, and being able to return to working without that narrow focus was refreshing," he added.

"Although working on Halloween didn’t specifically influence any of these new compositions, there is always a honing of craft that must take place when working on a film like Halloween, and our improved skills definitely helped us in writing these songs.”
Carpenter will also return in October for Halloween Kills.
