John Cena joins the cast of Transformers spinoff Bumblebee

The Transformers film series is establishing its own expanded universe, with the principle photography for the spin off Bumblebee having just begun. John Cena has been added to the cast.

There has also been some further cast and plot details released by Paramount. The film will be set in 1987 and will star True Grit's Hailee Steinfeld as Charlie, a teenager on the cusp of 18 living in California, who finds an old VW beetle battered and bruised in a junkyard. When she revives the car, she realises it's not what it seems (Spoiler: It's a transformer).

Also starring is Pamela Adlon(Louie) and Stephen Schneider of Broad City fame.
Directed by Travis Knight, Bumblebee won't be hitting out cinemas until late 2018. The wrestler-turned-actor John Cena has appeared in a number of comic roles since beginning his second career so it's likely his involvement here will makes use of his funny bone.
