John Grant has put out his new single ‘All That School For Nothing’ along with its accompanying music video. This track comes from his album The Art Of The Lie, out June 14.

When talking about the track Grant says, “This is a song I wrote for Blondie, but they didn’t want it, so I decided to reclaim it for myself. It was much more electronic at first but when I sang it, it became clear that it was much more of a Cameo or Whodini vibe, which I’m all for!”

Grant has been thinking about creating this album since the autumn of 2022. Earlier that year he had been introduced to producer and composer Ivor Guest when they had the idea to work on Grant’s next record together.

The Art Of The Lie took a year and a half to create. “We could often only work for two weeks at a time, it was so intense,” Grant said. “Ivor assembled a team of incredible musicians. Dave Okumu is such an incredible guitar player.

“He came into the room when we were playing the demo of ‘Father’ and just immediately started doing what you hear on the record. Robin Mullarkey played fretless bass and blew my mind, and the very talented Seb Rochford was on drum detail. There were a lot of moments of magic from everyone.”

Rachel Sermanni also makes an appearance on the track 'Mother And Son’ as the backing vocals. The 11 track album focuses on the themes that Grant values the most. He says, “It’s being in a taxi, the most normal situation in the world and seeing the grandeur, the sheer weight and majesty of a big city passing by, staring in awe. The absurdity of the world on the outside juxtaposed with the world taking place on the inside. That fascinates me, the ability to capture what it really feels like to be a human.”

Grant started his music career as a part of the alternative rock band, The Czars with Chris Pearson. Together they released six studio albums, one EP and three singles before Grant went solo.

The singer-songwriter put out his debut solo album Queen Of Denmark in 2010. Six albums later, Grant has created The Art Of The Lie and is going on tour. He will be at Dublin's Vicar Street on October 22.
