Following the release of the acclaimed The Search For Everything back in 2017, Grammy Award-winning artist, guitarist and producer John Mayer is back with a brand new album, Sob Rock – out today, July 16, via Columbia Records.
Produced by John Mayer and Don Was, and recorded at Henson Studios in Los Angeles, the album marks Mayer’s first solo offering in four years.
The Bridgeport, CT native first established himself as a serious talent with his quintuple-platinum Room For Squares in 2001, and has since scored three No.1 debuts on the Billboard Top 200 – with 2003's triple-platinum Heavier Things, 2009's double-platinum Battle Studies, and 2012's gold Born and Raised.
As well as selling over 20 million albums worldwide, and garnering billions of streams, he's won seven Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year for 'Daughters'. He's also earned a record-breaking seven US No.1s on Billboard's Top Rock Albums chart, and 25 entries on the Hot Rock Songs chart – the most for any solo artist.
In 2015, Mayer founded the Dead & Company supergroup – featuring former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann, alongside Mayer on lead guitar and vocals, Oteil Burbridge on bass/drums, and Jeff Chimenti on keyboards. Since its formation, the band has completed six tours, playing to 3.4 million fans.

With Sob Rock, Mayer cements his status as one of the most compelling artists currently making music.
“It’s a John Mayer passion project that toasts to the good old days, when musicians were more inclined to follow instincts and feelings than clicks and likes,” NME says, in a powerfully positive review.
"There are beautiful moments on Sob Rock," Tanis Smither of Hot Press says. "'New Light' has an incredibly catchy bridge, and serves as a taster of the astonishing guitar skills that are peppered throughout the record. 'Wild Blue' is another real gem."
