It's officially the most performed song of the year.
The great news from London is that Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid has together with Steve Mac and Ed Sheeran won the Ivor Novello Award for Most Performed Work with ‘Shape Of You’.
Responding to the announcement, Irish Music Rights Organisation CEO, Victor Finn, enthuses: “On behalf of IMRO, I would like to congratulate Johnny on this fantastic achievement, yet another nod to the calibre of music being produced on this island. Occasions such as The Ivors are an important opportunity to acknowledge music creators like Johnny whose commitment and passion plays a vital role in bolstering our reputation on the world stage and provides such enjoyment for music lovers near and far. With dedicated supports, there’s an exciting opportunity to further build on our reputation and secure the future of this important sector.”
And so say all of us!
Being handed out as we speak, other winners so far include Mica Levi who’s picked up Best Original Film Score for Jackie, Billy Ocean who gets an International Achievement statuette, Dave and Fraser T. Smith whose ‘Question Time’ is adjudged to be Best Contemporary Song and the Elbow boys whose ‘Magnificent (She Says)’ is Best Song Musically & Lyrically.
