Metallica and Joni Mitchell were among the artists who performed songs during PBS's Elton John and Bernie Taupin Gershwin Prize tribute
Singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell made an appearance at the Library of Congress' Gershwin Prize Tribute concert honouring Elton John and Bernie Taupin. The event, broadcasted on PBS, and held at DAR Revolution Hall in Washington D.C., featured a lineup of music artists paying homage to the iconic songwriting duo.
Mitchell, herself a recipient of the Gershwin Prize last year, took the stage alongside Brandi Carlile, Annie Lennox, Blake Mills, and Davey Johnstone to deliver a rendition of Elton John's classic hit, 'I'm Still Standing'.
Throughout the evening, the concert showcased several artists celebrating John and Taupin's legendary catalogue. Metallica kicked off the festivities with a rendition of 'Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding.'
Before the event, the band said they were “beyond excited and proud to have been invited to perform” at the “very special event” before describing John and Taupin as a “legendary songwriting team.”
Other performances included Annie Lennox's rendition of 'Border Song', Brandi Carlile's take on 'Madman Across The Water', and Jacob Lusk's cover of 'Bennie And The Jets.'

As the night came to a close, Elton John himself took the stage, delivering a rendition of 'Your Song.'
In addition to the musical tributes, the event featured video messages from industry icons such as Carole King and Paul McCartney, offering heartfelt praise for John and Taupin's songwriting partnership.
Elton John said this month that he was working on two musicals and was “open to any great ideas” regarding a third. Sir Elton, who has retired from touring aside from “the odd show”, played his last ever UK concert headlining Glastonbury 2023.
