Joni Mitchell Tribute film set for theatres in the States
Artists such as Emmylou Harris, Diana Krall, James Taylor, Glen Hansard, Seal and Norah Jones pay homage to the music idol.
A concert film made for Joni Mitchell's birthday party is set to hit the big screen this year.
The tribute was themed as two sold out concerts in LA, both of which took place early in November of last year.
The artists who participated included several contemporaries of Mitchell, like James Taylor, Graham Nash and Kris Kristofferson, along with longtime friend Chaka Khan, who recorded with Mitchell in the ’70s.
The rest of the diverse slate of stars included those who Mitchell had inspired over the years, including Diana Krall, Seal, Emmylou Harris, Brandi Carlile, Norah Jones, Rufus Wainwright and Glen Hansard.
The second of the two shows (which took place on November 6 and 7) took place on Mitchell’s 75th birthday and saw the legendary artist taking the stage to blow out birthday candles during a full-cast finale.
The filmed version of the shows will be shown in theatres in the USA for a one-night screening February 7. With any luck, the film will make its way over to the big or small in Ireland at some stage this year.
