Mixing sounds from South America with his own experimental brand of folk, Joshua Burnside's debut album, Ephrata, was a true triumph, destined to be met with accolades.

The album was selected as the best release by a selection of music industry and media figures, including Hot Press' Peter McGoran.

Speaking after the event, Joshua Burnside said: "It’s a massive honour to win this award especially as the quality of the albums this year has been so high. I’m absolutely chuffed so thank you to everyone who voted for me. Also a big thank you to everyone involved in making the album and to my manager Lyndon Stephens who never stops working!"

Previous NIMP winners include Ciaran Lavery, SOAK, Robyn G Shields and Foy Vance.

The Belfast event at the Mandela Hall also saw the presentation of a special Oh Yeah Legend Award to Vivian Campbell. This was presented by Stuart Fleming from PRS for Music, who sponsored the award. Vivian was then joined by his band Last In Line for a blistering finale to the evening.
