Nashville-based band Judah & the Lion are set to drop their latest studio album, Pep Talks, on 3 May. The group are slated to play Dublin’s Workman’s Club on 17 July on their subsequent world tour.
Founded in 2011 at Nashville’s Belmont University, Judah & the Lion consists of Judah Akers (lead vocals and guitar), Brian McDonald (vocals and mandolin) and Nate Zuercher (vocals and banjo).
After releasing a Christian EP in 2013, the band decided to broaden their musical horizons. Their fusion folk-hip-hop album Folk Hop n’ Roll hit number three on the Alternative New Artist chart in 2016. With their single ‘Take It All Back’ topping the Alternative Songs chart and earning gold certification, Judah & the Lion established themselves as a force on the offbeat music scene.
In addition to touring across Europe, the band have played festivals like Firefly, Music Midtown and the Governor’s Ball and supported superstars like Twenty One Pilots and Incubus.
Judah & the Lion’s latest album features collaborations with breakthrough artists Jon Bellion and Kacey Musgraves, bringing fresh twists to the group’s eclectic, experimental sound. Thought be album’s subject matter might be on the heavier side – it deals with lead singer Akers’ familial trauma – the group’s playful attitude towards genre makes Pep Talks an enjoyable listen for any music lover. With elements from pop to indie to electronica, this release begins a new chapter for the band.
