The tour includes his biggest headline show to date, in the Button Factory, Dublin.
Following the release of 'Life's New Haircut' back in October, Junior Brother is back with a new single, 'No Country For Young Men' – out on February 9. As well as being released on digital platforms, the track will be available as a limited edition gold 7" vinyl, backed with a vinyl-only exclusive b-side. To coincide with the announcement, the Kerry singer-songwriter has also unveiled details of his upcoming Irish tour, kicking off in April.
The tour includes gigs at the Spirit Store, Dundalk (April 16); Connolly's of Leap, Co. Cork (22); Sea Church in Ballycotton, Co. Cork (23); The Button Factory, Dublin (May 5); Dolan's Warehouse, Limerick (14); Róisín Dubh, Galway (21), and DeBarra's in Clonakilty, Co. Cork (June 3).
“I wrote this song in response to the tangible feeling of dread and anxiety I felt across Dublin city during my first few months living there," Junior Brother says of 'No Country For Young Men'. "Increasingly hostile and violent evictions, police complicity in such acts, the housing crisis in general, among other factors seemed to cultivate a distrust of authority, particularly in the youth of the country.
"The day after a police-backed violent eviction of peaceful protestors from an abandoned house in North Frederick Street, Dublin, I stood with many others my age outside the empty house, and remarked upon seeing the photograph of the balaclava'd police next to the thugs dressed in all black that you couldn't tell the goons from the guards," he continues. "I joined the dots between this line of inquiry and the expectations of masculinity in society, which in turn led me around to posit the notion that a better society does not come quick, and before things change, this future must 'wait like a woman', in hope and frustration."
Junior Brother released his Choice Prize-nominated debut album, Pull The Right Rope, in 2019, and has toured with the likes of The Proclaimers, Lankum, Glen Hansard and The Murder Capital.
