Listen to the new project – made up of one epic near-20-minute-long track – below.
Seven months after the release of his lauded second album, The Great Irish Famine, Junior Brother has returned with a new EP, Junior Brother's Favourite.
Marking a fearless expansion of his sound, the project finds the Kerry singer-songwriter – who was previously crowned The Irish Times' 'Best Irish Act of 2019' – embarking on a remarkable journey across "one long song," which has been described as "a final chapter in the strange yet stunning worlds conjured up by his previous three releases."
The EP will also be available as a limited edition 10" vinyl – which you can pre-order here.
"This song was written on the day I moved back to Dublin after the first 3 months of the 2020 lockdown spent at home in Co. Kerry," Junior Brother says of the track. "After that long-feeling period of uncertainty and writers' block at home, I sat to try once more to write something.
"As soon as I did, the flow returned in a rush of focus never before felt – the atmospheres of home so crucial to my work returned again only upon my leaving. Everything which silently built up during the previous few months was suddenly spit up and staked to the front of my subconcious in a dizzying frenzy. Uncharged images from the months of nothingness now beckoned meaning, and meanings more images, until field was followed by meadow, then beach, then sea, until everything reached the sky, and fear became my favourite, and the darkness was chiseled to try to look like love."
Junior Brother's Favourite was recorded by John 'Spud' Murphy – renowned for his work with the likes of Lankum, black midi, caroline, Ye Vagabonds and Pretty Happy.

The project follows last year's The Great Irish Famine, Junior Brother's Choice Prize-nominated debut album Pull The Right Rope (2019), and his Fuck Off I Love You EP (2016).
