Junior Murvin RIP
The reggae veteran beloved of the Clash has passed away in Jamaica
Hot Press is saddened to learn of the death in Jamaica on Monday of Junior Murvin, the reggae legend whose 1977 'Police And Thieves' single was famously covered by The Clash on their eponymous debut album.
Whilst written about the widespread social unrest at home, it's lyrics were equally applicable to the tensions leading to the Notting Hill Riots.
Murvin's UK fan club also included The Ruts, Generation X, Misty In Roots, The Slits and Stiff Little Fingers who all contributed to what Bob Marley branded the 'Punky Reggae Party'.
