Last night at a performance for his Purpose tour, Justin Bieber walked offstage, frustrated that overzealous fans were cheering and screaming during his performances. After a minute or so of the crowd chanting for his return, Bieber came back onstage and gave a further explanation for his frustration.
"So the reason I got upset earlier is because I travelled the whole world to come here. It's not just a quick flight, it's not like I'm just in and out, I dedicated my life to this. I dedicated my life to performing, I dedicate my life to bringing big smiles to people's faces, and I feel like people just aren't giving me the same respect back, and courtesy, so that's all, and I appreciate you guys coming out."
This wasn't the first time on this tour Bieber has gotten frustrated over the crowd drowning out his songs. During another show this past Thursday the star asked the crowd to "try and stay quiet as possible," saying "You can scream as much as you want afterwards but while I'm singing try and stay quiet."
The show in Manchester continued to be a turbulent one, as the Lord Mayor Carl Austin-Behan came forward saying that he experienced homophobic abuse at the gig. Austin-Behan, Britain's first openly gay lord mayor, reported that two girls in attendance at the gig called him "a fa***t and a dirty gay." He reported the incident to the police, and has spoken out about the experience, saying “I’m in a privileged position at the moment as the lord mayor and one of the things I’ve stood my ground on is that we need to make sure we report hate crime and get that message across. The fact of highlighting that it’s still out there – however small it is, you still have to report it – because there are still people out there who feel it’s all right to be abusive,” he said.
Bieber will be arriving in Dublin at the beginning of November, with two shows on November 1 and 2.
