Kae Tempest has shared their powerful new single ‘Statue In The Square’, their first release since 2022’s ‘I Saw Light’ – featuring Grian Chatten – from the album The Line Is A Curve.
The track was first previewed on Nick Grimshaw’s BBC 6 Music Show, and produced by Fraser T Smith, best known for his work with the likes of Stormzy, Adele and Dave.
With ‘Statue In The Square’, Kae captures the streets of South London and the sounds they hear around them. The music video was directed by Boy Dykes and features an array of voices from the community, including Princess Julia, Joelle Taylor, Sweatmother, Debbie Smith and Dr Ronx.
Speaking of the new track, Kae comments: “There is power in showing up for yourself and showing up for your people. I hope this song powers you up. I hope it moves you. Take courage my friends, we got this.”

The track follows Kae’s 2022 record The Line Is A Curve, which was rated a 9/10 by Hot Press, writing that the London wordsmith "noticeably turns up the intensity dial” on the album.
