The rapper is understood to be under “psychiatric evaluation” at UCLA Medical Center in LA, according to TMZ. Local law enforcement sources say that LA police responded to a medical welfare call at 1.20pm local time yesterday.
Prior to being admitted to hospital, the rapper was being seen by medics yesterday for “severe sleep deprivation”, according to sources. But it’s understood the police were called to the scene after he refused voluntarily to go with them to hospital and that he was handcuffed to a gurney.
The star, according to close friends, is “spiraling out of control”. Sources told DailyMail.com that the apparent “breakdown” was triggered by ongoing problems with his wife Kim Kardashian, along with paranoia over his rift with Jay Z and jealousy of Beyoncé.
One source close to the rapper said it all came to a head because he’s a “workaholic” who “often stays up and works for 48 hours at a time”, according to Page Six website.
The source added that the hospitalisation was a result of his “chaotic life” combined with the fact that “he never got over” the death of his mother.
“'He's having a nervous breakdown,” claimed the source. “He is becoming more and more unpredictable.”
Another source told the Daily Mail: “'He had a psychotic break. Kanye is very hot tempered and he's very reactionary. A lot of times, he speaks before he thinks and he's very sensitive.”
The latest news comes hot on the heels of the announcement yesterday by Live Nation that Kanye West had cancelled the remaining 22 gigs of his national tour without any reason.
“He's spiraling further and further out of control. Basically everything crazy he does is 'art' — canceling his tour is 'art',” a source told Page Six website.
But his mother-in-law believes he’s just suffering from exhauastion. “I think he’s exhausted. Just really tired. It's a grueling tour,” she stated last night to reporters on the red carpet of a charity event.
The announcement came just two days after he walked off stage following a bizarre rant during the concert in Sacramento last Saturday. In the rant, he claimed to have been “hurt” by alleged demands from Beyoncé that she would only perform at the MTV Video Music Awards if she was guaranteed that she’d win the award instead of other nominees, including himself.
“In my opinion - now don't go dissing Beyoncé, she's great. Taylor Swift is great. We are all great people," he said at the concert. "But sometimes we be playing the politics too much and forget who we are - just to win. F**k winning, f**k looking cool, f**k being cool. At the risk of my own success. I'll give ya'll the truth.”
Kanye also bizarrely said during the rant that he wanted her husband Jay Z to call him and “talk to me like a man”, adding: “Jay Z, I know you got killas. Please don't send them at my head. Just call me—talk to me..."
Kanye has also reported falling out with his wife who didn’t want him to undertake the grueling tour in the first place. She wanted him by her side as she recovered from her traumatic robbery in Paris.
“Kim is fed up,” claims a close friend, according to this morning’s DailyMail.com. “They've been bickering constantly - she didn't want Kanye to do the tour in the first place.
“She lost days with him while he's touring and then he made a rash decision to end the concert after ten minutes and go on a rant.”
While a friend of the family also told the Daily Mail, “'We’re all really worried about Kim – no one has been able to get hold of her since it happened. Kim got through her ordeal [in Paris] without losing her mind and now she has to deal with Kanye losing his.
"She has to take care of him when really, she needs taking care of herself. She’s still not fully recovered and now she has to deal with this. It’s a complete mess.”
