The single touches on themes of lost love.
Kean Kavanagh has dropped the new track ‘The Whistle,’ paired with an accompanying music video.
The single marks his first solo release since his 2023 Wrestling Music EP, blending indie rock with Irish traditional influences. The video, shot in Kavanagh’s hometown of Portlaoise, was directed by Kojaque and Rob Bass and stars Peter McGann.
“‘The Whistle’ is a song about the tricks that the mind can play on you when looking back on the death of a relationship - ‘if I could only have them, I’d need or want for nothing else,’” he said. “I think this type of reminiscing can be an easy salve for people - they can place all of their hopes and dreams of salvation on this one person who’s ever so slightly out of reach rather than truly mourning them, moving on and owning your own life, good, bad and all.”
Kavanagh has shared the stage with artists like Loyle Carner and Lana Del Rey, and opened for Maverick Sabre and Vampire Weekend. He released his debut album Dog Person back in 2020. That same year, the artist also appeared on FRIDAY FOREVER by Everything Is Recorded alongside Aitch, Flohio, Maria Somerville and Ghostface Killah. In 2019, he was featured in a Boiler Room documentary about the Dublin rap collective, Soft Boy Records.
