It's the second single off of her upcoming album Rainbow.
Having released the hair-raising 'Prayer' last week , Kesha gives us another attempt at female empowerment in the form of 'Woman'. The horn-heavy jaunt was made in collaboration with the funk performers The Dap Kings.
Given the much publicised struggles she's endured in the past few years, its refreshing to hear the 30 year old release back to back anthems of independence. "I'm a motherfucking woman" she repeats on the chorus. It may not be the most nuanced approach ,but the rawness of the emotion speaks for itself.
In an essay she published by Rolling Stone she said "I wanted this song to capture that organic, raw, soulful sound and keep the imperfect moments in the recordings."

She recalls the day she was inspired "I was really feeling that conviction one particular day while I was stuck in traffic on my way to the studio and out of nowhere I felt the urge to scream, 'I'm a motherfucking woman'. By the time I got the the studio, I was chanting 'I’m a motherfucking woman'."
